The Weekly Vibe no 49 Vibewise
The Weekly Vibe No 49
As we gear up for the Xmas onslaught we are taking time out to check our heads and appreciate what we have on offer. No more Gary Glitter Xmas concerts, (unless you are in a Thai jail of course) so here at Murphy's we give you the primer for the Holiday season. Sit back, grab a beer and relax. Tell the family the recession is nigh and forget about any presents for a few years. The best music comes from hard times. So here's to hard times!
This weeks FREE MP3 is from Vibewise. A classic tune from the boys. We love the fact someone in Brookline can sing "Back to the Ghetto, Back to JP". Great stuff really, and when delivered by Ajahni even better. Do yourself another favor and head down to this.
For those of you not familiar with the food at Matt Murphy's you should check this link and see what's on offer.
The Upcoming shows at Matt Murphy's Pub will delight the aural senses.
14 Harvard Street, Brookline, MA. 617 232 0188
Thursday: Wild Sextet
Walk the dog at 9pm and head into Murphy's for a free concert with one of the Best Jazz acts in the USA right now. Original tunes inspired by the greats from the Fifties and Sixties. Bedazzling
dueling Saxophones from two of the towering talents in Boston, Andy Voelker and Timo Shanko, ridiculous guitar from Steve Fell and sublime rhythm section from Geoff Charland and Luther. Then there is the founder Grayson Farmer on Trumpet, nearing legend status from appearing on Slip albums and original member of The Jazz Farmers with The Duo's Marco Benevento.
FRIDAY: Zack Hillyard
Zack renders a funky pop aesthetic to what he does with a good looking tight band backing his heart felt paeans to love and loss. Mix a good looking Jamiroquai with Maroon 5 pop sensibilities and you get the picture. One for the ladies.
SATURDAY: Rogue Heroes
High octane rock n' roll with a groove. The band pours shots of all genres into their signature punk rock cocktail. Sounds like Elvis after three weeks in Vegas. New Album "The King is Dead" out Nov.8th.
SUNDAY: Vibewise
Ajahni teams up with his band Vibewise for another foray on the Reggae excursion. Lyrics that inspire and question, a performance like no other, a voice so distinct you have to take notice.
The band lends a top support to this ball of energy that really is a symphony of vibe.
MONDAY: Seamonsters
Christian McNeil is a well kent face aroond toon. In other words a legend on the local scene. A powerhouse voice and a turn of phrase that lends itself perfectly to the song form, this is the Ulster version of where Bono would be if he had split U2 up in their prime (and saved us the aural nightmares hitherto) and teamed up with a bunch of hungry Waterboys. Add in a mellow Black Francis and you are almost there. Music to grab you by the heart and make you fall in love all over again.
Did we say we think they are magnificent?
TUESDAY: B3 KINGS
Here for the next round of Tuesdays is the ever popular B3 kings on a mission to convert everyone to the Church of B3. Boogaloo meets Reggae with some serious attitude. We are talking Brian Thomas (Akashic, JBB) and Timo Shanko on all out attack mode. Sensational musicianship with an up for it crowd.
Labels: B3 Kings, Bono, Pixies, Pub Records, Rogue Heroes, Seamonsters, the slip, Vibewise, wild sextet, Zack Hillyard
