HEAVY VIBES

This is the last in the series of the 'Why do Birds' with Shea Rose. We also have a one off appearance from Brad Barr from The Slip which is bound to be special. The front man for the seminal post jam indie - rock band The Slip stops by Murphy's for a solo show as part of his tour. Expect a packed house for what will be a seminal performance.

SATURDAY: Los Acoustilocos

Brazilian and South American tunes abound with this seven piece band that brings the party to the fore. Excellent musicianship and a host of great performances with this easy on the eyes
tour de force. Bring your dancing shoes and get up close to a relative stranger!

SUNDAY: 3 Leg Dog

Made up from members of John Brown's Body and Bqez this band has the makings of being one of the most talked about dub bands in town. Come down for the usual heady cocktail of sinful beats and low elements. The essential end to the week.

What can be said about Miss Shea? An onstage grace that few can even imagine coupled with a voice as distinct as you will get to hear. After making a spell bounding appearance with Johnny
Trama at Harper's Ferry for his record release she has been badgered by me to play a solo show. Here it is! Come down and celebrate the presence of a star in the making.

Here for the next round of Tuesdays is the ever popular B3 kings on a mission to convert everyone to the Church of B3. Boogaloo meets Reggae with some serious attitude. We are talking Brian Thomas (Akashic, JBB) and Timo Shanko on all out attack mode. Sensational musicianship with an up for it crowd.

THURSDAY: WILDSEXTET

Wildsextet play all original tunes and feature some of the very best players in town. A great feature of the night is the open session that takes place after midnight when all comers can play with the band. Just bring your instrument and come and sit in. Regular guests make this night the Best Jazz sessions in town. Five years and counting!

C-Money at the Wonder Bar was a joy to behold, add Lady K from BQEZ and G-Love sitting in and it all added up to a sensational night. We have Jimmy T at the bar on Friday and John Brown's Body side project coming through too on Sunday.

Jimmy Trapella leads his band into the breach! The Friday Social will never be the same again. Complimented by a tight rhythm section and Rex on Keys this is a band choc full of tunes and
energy. Reggae sound with some dark dub funk elements.

SATURDAY: Ten Tumbao

Latin and Caribbean rhythms, intricate vocal harmonies, and original songs in Spanish, French, English, Haitian Creole and Portuguese. Based out of New York City, this band is a treat.

SUNDAY: RubblebucketOrchestra

Members from John Brown's Body perform an Afro-Dub Trance vibe. I guess you cross Anti Balas with Scratch Perry or something. Lots of Trumpet and melody too I imagine if Alex Toth is in the mix, which he is!

MONDAY: Sparrow

Sparrow play a great take on the Beth Orton/Liz Fraser/Portishead/Everything But the Girl genre of cute songwriting and great vocals. Also on the bill are 'Ronald Reagan'-80's cover songs as a saxophone duo. Love the sound of it!

This is part of the new Monday night series "Why do Birds?" A not too subtle reference to an all female singer songwriter night.

Geoff Scott returns with mike Rivard and Brian Sayers and Timo Shanko to show everyone why they are at the Pub in the first place. Six years on and going STRONG. Music experimentation,
stretching of the musical mind muscle.Post jam sounds of the nth degree get your pulse racing for the mid week weekend at Murphy's.

Expect a great crowd for what remains the best night in Boston bar none.

Greg has guested on many a Public House night and B3 Kings. This is his debut with his own band in the room and we are looking forward to it we can tell you! Funked up soul music to the nth degree and a vibe factor of eleven. Or as Ringo would say "a thousand percent".

Andy Voelker leads one of the most talked about alt-jazz bands in town.
A mainstay of the Thursday night resident band, Wild Sextet, tonight sees Andy stretch out and take full control! All original tunes with tips of the hat to Coltrane and Coleman.

Tonights Live and Direct features a band that is familiar with Murphy's audiences by now. The ever energetic and supercharged Ajah-ni never fails to intoxicate his audience . With one of the most distinctive voices in Reggae his performance will leave you spellbound.The band provides a great hard hitting reggae-dub soundtrack for the weekend.

Maeve brings her cross genre multi ethnic nu jazz folk to Murphy's for another spin on the dance floor. The word captivating does not do this act justice. We have virtuoso South American rhythms coupled with glorious sounds of Scottish Harp. Top that off with a great singer with a rare beauty and you have a magical night.

The Weekly Vibe no.41

Here Comes The Night!

This could be one of the best weekend lineups at Murphy's in quite a long time.

It has a great feel to it what with the holiday on Monday as well. Get out for every night, you can, it's all free! In any city in the world there will not be a line up this good for free anywhere. Guaranteed. So be glad you live in this city!

Toussaint played the Roxy with Soulive and was excellent. Congratulations!

We had the first Murphy's vs Wally's night last Monday and here is the result!

Burning Fence


Akira leads the Pressure Cooker crew on a slightly scaled down version of the band that has been rocking Boston for the last ten years. Always a party with a Ska tinged horn-tastic vibe.
The perfect band for a kick start to the weekend.

Sambalolo

Boubacar has a residency at the Midway Cafe every Monday in JP - sensational stuff. We snagged him for the Saturday slot here and are mighty glad to have him on board. Amazing presence and great band with a sound that swings from mellow beauty to resplendent glory in the turn of a phrase. Songs in French and English, with American and Mali influences.

Fully Celebrated Orchestra

The New York Times said it best when describing Jim Hobbes as one of the greatest living American Saxophone players. After more than fifteen years together this band is finally hitting
their stride..Recent shows with The Slip at the Middle East and JFJO at The Paradise are testament not just to their enduring appeal but to the extent they inspire the best.

A welcome return to a Murphy's favorite here. Madi blends classic influences and weaves them into a fresh sounding indie-country mix. Great voice, great songwriter, great look and this girl
